March 25-29th SUPERHEROES!

Hello,

We concluded our dinosaur theme last week and will participate in a quick superhero theme. Although we will use the more familiar superheroes during the week, I want the students to learn that there are LOTS of real life superheroes and they can be a superhero, too!

PLEASE look over THIS END OF THE YEAR IMPORTANT EVENTS document...The end of the school year will come quickly and there are LOTS of fun activities planned. The Important Event document should be checked weekly for any additions (I will remind you:). I will send out details about events as they get closer.

BUT, the first thing we need to solidify are chaperones for our field trip to Southwick's Zoo on  6/6. We are restricted to only a handful of chaperones so I will do a drawing if I get more requests than needed. I want to give all of you the opportunity! IF you want to be a chaperone, please email me and I will add your name to the "hat". I will be making those selections by the end of the week so that you can plan accordingly. The zoo permission slips are coming home this week and MUST be returned by 4/16. Thank You😄!

This week the students will

Language Arts:

  • continue to practice digraphs (spelling as well as reading with them)
  • participate in activities that practice comprehension skills
  • learn trick words: me, be
  • practice all the trick words in the "I Have Who Has" game
  • write about what their super powers would be if they were a superhero
  • practice ABC order
  • learn about introductions and endings when writing How To books
Math:
  • finish our unit on 2D shapes and compare them to 3D shapes
  • make a picture using 2D shapes
  • identify and describe different attributes of shapes and make a collage of pictures showing those shapes
  • practice adding combinations to 5
  • practice counting strategies
  • practice adding to 10
Science:
  • The students will be given the chance to take a "super strength" STEM challenge. We will need more paper towel tubes if you have any!
  • review the 5 senses and use our "super senses" to solve mysteries
SEL-
The students are practicing "situational awareness" and problem solving strategies. We will read a story and brainstorm ways in which they can help to solve (typical kindergarten) problems on their own.
