Jan. 12-16th 2025 LOTS of STORYTIME!

Hello Families!

We have a busy week ahead, full of stories!

*Shakey's virtual  Storytime will be on Monday evening. A packet was sent home on Friday to be enjoyed for the event! There will be 3 breakout rooms with staff from school reading throughout the evening. I will be in breakout room 3 at 6:30! HERE is the link to room 3. Mrs. Kane will send out the links as well.

*AND...WEDNESDAY! As part of a Shaker Lane teacher initiative to encourage reading and the library, I will be reading at the Littleton Public Library on Wednesday at 6:30. Students can come in PJs and feel free to bring a stuffy. No need to register- just come for a bedtime story!

*FARM DAY!
We are concluding module 2 in Wit and Wisdom and to celebrate our farm theme (and all the hard work the children have been doing!), kindergarten will have a "Farm Day" celebration on FRIDAY 1/16. Children are invited to wear anything farm related. For example: we have learned about many characters from our texts and they could dress in pink to represent one of the pigs or brown for the brown dog in The Little Red Hen, they could dress like a farmer or wear something with a picture of a farm animal on it. THIS IS NOT A HAVE TO!! We will be making puppets and retelling stories with the puppets, designing our own farms (with different mediums), performing our repeated language that they have been practicing. We will also make our own butter to use on bread to eat at snack- just like the Little Red Hen! The children will also share their narrative books that they will be writing throughout the week. Look for a lot of work to come home on Friday!😂

If you have any small baby food size jars (with lids) that you do not want, we can use them for making butter on Friday!

*This week in language arts, the children will:
  • learn a new trick word: you
  • write a narrative farm theme story
  • formally learn how to write uppercase letters A-P
  • continue to practice tapping and blending CVC words
  • manipulate letters to spell cvc words
  • put letters in ABC order
  • sequence and retell a story
  • identify story elements like: characters, setting, problem, events, responses to the problems and resolution
*This week in math, the children will be completing an assessment, practicing counting with 1:1 and making number sentences. They will also be sequencing and writing numbers.

*On Friday, the students will also learn about Martin Luther King and write or draw a picture to show their "dream".

*Second Step: lesson #16 managing anger

*A Scholastic Book order form went home last week. If you would like to order from the website, the due date will be Jan. 18th.

*Wednesday is an early release day!

👏Thank you to all that have sent in Clorox wipes/paper towels! We will go through lots and appreciate any donations! Any donations of boxes of tissues is also much appreciated...we are wiping out the supply 😂.
