Hello!
Because we did not get to do lots of the Superhero activities this past week, we will continue our theme for next week. I would love to end our theme with a "Superhero Day" and the students are invited to dress like a Superhero on Friday! We are really close to filling the heart jar (didn't quite get there last week...) so be on the lookout for info about a celebration!🙌
Some things to remember:
- HERE is the link to our EOY important K events
- Please send in the field trip permission slips/$ (either to school or online) ASAP and include the extra $ if you were chosen to be a chaperone.- A HUGE thank you to all of you who volunteered to put your name in the hat!
- HERE is the ZOO FIELD TRIP GOOGLE FORM to fill out for ME (different from permission)
- Friday is an early release day
- Friday is "Superhero Day" in room 103
- Room 103 could really use some Clorox wipes!
- We are still in need of lots of paper towel tubes!
- The PTA is looking for help to run the very popular (and super fun!) SPRINGFEST event on May 16th. Please consider donating some time to help this event run smoothly- it is important to have plenty of adults running the games, etc. I will be there for sure!
Some of the students have been having difficulty with following directions right away and need to be redirected too much, which is frustrating for the others who are waiting patiently for the lesson, etc. I encourage you to practice listening to directions and following those directions right away with your child. If you give your child a direction, have them repeat it and do it right away without having to tell them again. This video is a short game you can play with your child. A student should not have to wait to be called out individually to follow a direction...We have more fun when lessons go smoothly!
This week the children will:
Language Arts-
- practice the new trick word: look
- continue reading and spelling words with digraphs
- write an opinion on Antarctica and Asia
- practice syllable sorting
- practice ABC order
- listening to a short reading and then answering comprehension questions about what they heard
- begin the next unit on teen numbers
- compose/decompose numbers 10-20
- practice skip counting by 10
- practice adding to 10
- use a 0-20 number line
- practice counting strategies
- review shapes
SEL-
We are continuing to learn about showing respect and talking to each other in a respectful way. There has been a lot of role playing! Millie has had some issues at Puppet School with the same challenges (go figure!) and she will ask for some assistance on the subject. We will also participate in the Second Step lesson about name calling.
Social Studies-
Students will learn about different community members - our own superheroes! They are also learning about how to read a map, the people and natural features of Africa and Antarctica.
Science- I am still hoping to do a "super strength" science experiment with the students but we do not have enough paper towel tubes yet. If I do not get enough by Wednesday, I will send home the activity for students to do at home if they want. If they do, please send in a picture - I would LOVE to see it!😀
