March 16-20, 2026

Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona dhuit!- Happy St. Patrick's Day to all who celebrate!

Hello!

It was so nice to meet with you last week at our conference. There is always so much to talk about at a conference and I realize for many of you it probably was not enough time. Like I said at our conference, please do not hesitate to reach out if you want to discuss more or have any questions/concerns. I am happy to chat more!

I am seeing lots of improvement in the students' writing and it is really exciting! The students will be learning a lot of sight words this spring. I encourage you to post them somewhere visible so that your child can see them outside of school and hopefully identify them when you are reading to them.
This week, we will practice the new sight words: he, she, me.

We will begin Module 4 in Wit and Wisdom this week. Our topic is: The Continents. I wonder what "Witty Bear" will be wearing to give the students a hint about their topic! I have a stuffed bear (Witty) who dresses for each module to help motivate our learning. I will try to take a picture of Witty in costume for you😂. Here is a link to what we will be learning for the next several weeks:    Module 4: The Continents Home Link

The students will continue to learn about shapes in math. This week, our focus will be using 3D shapes when learning about positional words. They will also continue to make combinations of 10 and practice those math facts.

We will begin our 3rd trimester special on next Wednesday 3/25- Music!

We have been reading the March Madness books and will (hopefully) be able to vote on our absolute favorite by the end of the week. Stay tuned to see our favorite!

We will participate in lesson 23 in Second Step: how to handle things when someone takes something away from you

There are different ways to measure things at the science center right now... different kinds of scales, measuring tape and a ruler.

**The last trimester of school gets REALLY busy. The K team put together an Important Events doc for you to reference. I will add our own class events to our blog- please check both regularly.

Here are some pictures from our week: making 3 D shapes from playdough, critiquing their own writing, lots of measuring each other and weighing/comparing objects and some choice time and math centers

We had an amazing visit from Michelle Barry who works at the Littleton Historical Society! She completed a timeline with the students that showed how Littleton has changed over time...beginning with the Nashoba people!

March 9-13 2026- conferences!

Hello Families!
I am looking forward to seeing you on Friday at our conference. Please meet me in the classroom at your scheduled time and feel free to knock on the door at your time to keep me on track😂. If you have requested a virtual conference, the link is on the sign up sheet. If you have to switch your conference for any reason, please do so the day before to make sure I can accommodate your change. I will not be able to see any changes after 8:45 Fri. am! IF you have not signed up by Thursday, I assume you do not want a conference at this time.

This week, we will be wrapping up module 3 in Wit and Wisdom with our End Of Module Task. We will also be finishing up unit 3 in Fundations (our phonics program) and learning when to use a c or a k in a word (yup...there are rules!). Our new trick words are: as, has.

In math, we will be learning the names of and building with 3D shapes and then learning positional words (above/below, next to/besides, before/after), while using 3D shapes.

Our Second Step lesson will be #22- Having Fun With Our Friends

I am super excited to welcome Michelle Barry from the Littleton Historical Society to kindergarten on Tuesday! She will be showing the students some artifacts from Littleton's past. I think this will be a nice conclusion to our unit on America Then and Now (from Wit and Wisdom) and a great way for the children to experience some of the things we have learned about in a hands on way.

Here are some pictures from the "Invention Convention"!

March 2-6th 2026 - Conferences are coming!

This week, the children will:
Language Arts-
  • begin work on a new book called Now and Ben, which is about Ben Franklin.
  • write about something they feel lucky to have
  • reading decodable books about the first cars and Amelia Earhart
  • arrange letter tiles spell words
  • determine if a CVC word is real or nonsense
  • practice two new trick words: this, was
  • label the parts of a leprechaun
  • write/spell short vowel words that have been dictated to them
Math-
We will spend this week reviewing ways to make 10 by playing lots of games and making a few projects. This is a skill that is difficult for all the students and I feel they need more practice before their unit assessment.

Second Step- lesson #21 : fair ways to play

Science- we will be finishing up our discussions about winter (I have had enough 😂). We will be learning a little about how rainbows are formed and, to compliment our new book about Ben Franklin, the children will be inventing something of their own over the next few weeks!

FYI:
  • Wednesday- 12:15 early release day
**March Scholastic Book Orders will be due Friday March 6th!
*Please be sure to sign up for a parent/teacher conference (the link is above this post). This is an important time for us to communicate about your child's progress at school. I am looking forward to seeing you!

We are about to begin Shaker Lane's version of March Madness! Throughout the month, I will be reading the books shown below and the students will vote on their favorites...until we find the champion! Thank you to the PTA for purchasing all these books for kindergarten!💖 Here is the K bracket:

snow play day!

We poured salt over an ice balloon and then listened for it to "crack"!

Exploring with a giant ice "balloon" and watching the different colors freeze on top and then melt and make cracks in the ice...also experimenting with colors! We also explored snow and looked for 6 sided snowflakes...

helping a student spell a word during Fundations

We used rekenreks A LOT last week to help the students see combinations of 10- we also played some new math games to practice this skill!

Mrs. Kane read us a great book about all
