January 5-9th 2026

Hello and Happy New Year!

I just wanted to extend my sincere gratitude for all the lovely holiday gifts, cards and well wishes. I appreciate all of them but the best part is watching your child give a gift and the excitement on their face when I opened/read the gift/card. The spirit of giving on a kindergartener's face is precious!💖

Just a reminder that the students only need full snow clothes on Fridays. However, they do need warm mittens and hats. I have a mitten basket for those who forget theirs but the supply is dwindling (amazing how they just disappear:)! I will buy some more but would also welcome any donations (especially waterproof ones!). 😊

This week:
Now that we have learned all the letters, we are going to begin our "themes". For the next 3 weeks, our theme will be "winter". We will read several fiction and non fiction books about the season and all our subjects will be integrated with the theme. We will also be learning about temperature and our 5 senses in the winter.  We will continue with our "farm theme" in Wit and Wisdom for the next few weeks.

Language arts focus:
The students will formally learn how to "tap and blend" sounds to make words. This important strategy will be essential for reading and writing. Here is a short video to show you what I mean!

The students will get a new sight word:  little
We will also begin to formally learn how to write the uppercase letters. The children have been doing a lot of writing and are learning things like finger spacing, adding a capital letter at the start of a sentence and adding punctuation at the end of a sentence. They are stretching and tapping words and really working hard at discriminating between vowel sounds...it's A LOT!! I am really proud of how hard they are working!😍

Math focus:
  • compare 2 groups and tell which has more/less
  • demonstrate the concept of equal
  • use strategies like drawing lines to match objects to see which group has "left overs" or more and tell how many more
  • match numbers to quantity
  • sequence numbers
  • practice counting to 100 by 1s and 10s

Science focus: The students will learn about trees in winter and our 5 senses. They will also be categorizing winter/summer clothes.

Second Step Lesson: lesson #15 "Waiting is HARD!"

Thank you to Mrs. LaQuerre for
being our Mystery Reader!

Here are some pictures in video form from the week before the holiday break. It was so fun to see the magic through your child's eyes...precious!
