Feb 9-13th 2026- A VERY Exciting Week Ahead!

Hello Families,
We have lots of fun planned for this week before our Feb. vacation! I told the students that they can wear PJs on Wednesday for our Global Play Day. Also, if the temperature cooperates, we will have snow play! Please send in snow clothes for 2/11 (Global Play Day).

Be on the lookout for a March conference sign up on the Monday we get back from vacation

This week, we will continue our Kindness theme and the children will be given a kindness challenge throughout the week, including participating in a community kindness project!
The students will:
Language Arts-
  • practice new trick words: with
  • read, spell and write CVC words
  • practice adding the silent and magical e to a cvc word to make the vowel say it's name (for example, pin/pine)
  • write full sentences about who/what they love and how to show kindness in our classroom, family and community
  • read from decodable books! (I am seeing the magic of kindergarten come to fruition!💖)
  • write an informational paragraph with a topic sentence, details and conclusion (WOW!- that's hard stuff!)
  • practice ABC order
  • practice discriminating between vowel sounds
  • HERE is a link to what we are learning about in Wit & Wisdom!
Math-
  • demonstrate different ways to make numbers 6-10
  • practice add/sub through 10
  • practice number writing
  • count to 100 while playing games
  • adding on to a number (instead of recounting)
Social Emotional-
As I stated last week, we are going to focus on past second step lessons that I feel our class needs to review and we will participate in several activities that practice kindness.

Social Studies-
We are learning about how America has changed; specifically how homes and schools have changed.

Science-
We will continue to learn about the characteristics of winter and, hopefully, we will have time to do a chemistry activity!

OUR WEEK:
MondayThe 100th day of school: Feb. 9th is the 100th day of school and we will be celebrating with lots of fun activities that day.  The children are encouraged to bring in 100 of something to share with the class (like a show and tell).  This could be a collection (buttons, rocks, beads, Legos, ANYTHING!) or they could wear 100 on them (100 cheerios on a necklace, 100 smiley faces on a t- shirt, or just the number 100 on a hat etc).  This should not be a stressful thing! I will read a book as we get closer about the 100th day of school coming up, which has lots of ideas and we will discuss some ideas together. I have begun to talk about it with the class so they may be aware of the expectation.  We will also have a special snack at the end of the day! HERE is more information.

Wednesday- GLOBAL PLAY DAY!  HERE is a lot of information on what this day is exactly! The students are encouraged to bring in collaborative toys, games etc to share and play with their friends. I am asking that there be NO electronic/noisy games or toys. I appreciate it! Some fun things to bring in could be a large sheet/blanket to make a fort, craft materials, board games, card games, etc.. The whole school will be participating in this day of play! HERE is something for your fridge to remind you!

Friday-Valentine's Day: Our Valentine's Day class list is at the top of the blog. Each child brings in a card for each classmate. I encourage your child to at least sign his/her name on the cards they are giving and it might be too much for them to do at once so pacing will be important! Please note that we are NOT allowed to attach any candy to the Valentine. Please have Valentine's in by 8:55 am on 2/13.

Shaker Lane School Spirit Day- HEART Day: is on Feb. 13th and students are invited to wear anything with hearts on it, bring in something with hearts on it, create something with hearts on it...etc! This is to celebrate our HEART program as well as Valentine's Day!

Here are some pictures from last week's fun and learning!
