Hello and Happy New Year!
Now that we have learned all the letters, we are going to begin our "themes". For the next 3 weeks, our theme will be "winter". We will read several fiction and non fiction books about the season and all our subjects will be integrated with the theme. We will also be learning about temperature and our 5 senses in the winter.
Language arts focus:
The students will formally learn how to "tap and blend" sounds to make words. This important strategy will be essential for reading and writing. Here is a short video to show you what I mean!
The students will get a new sight word: a
Math focus: The students will be practicing counting to 100 by 1s and 10s and will practice counting on from a given number.
Science focus: The students will learn about trees in winter and our 5 senses.
Second Step Lesson: "How to calm down strong feelings"
