April 22-26th Rainforests and SPRINGFEST!

April 26 from 5-8:00 pm

Hello Families!
I hope you had a great April break. I spent a lot of time with Ellie, saw some live music, spent time with my parents and went to a Red Sox game. Hold on to your hats because the rest of the school year FLIES by so quickly! Please remember to check the Important K Events for dates and fun days!
it is going to go SO fast :(

We will wrap up our theme on the rainforest this week. The children will be completing an activity that shows the layers of the rainforest and which animals live where. Although we are focusing on the Amazon rainforest, our bulletin board represents animals from rainforests around the world.

This week the children will:
Language Arts-
  • write about their vacation week
  • continue with writing a persuasive letter
  • use digraphs to spell words and read simple sentences
  • see and hear fluency when reading
  • sequence a story
  • review all the trick words and learn the new word: they
  • listen to and discuss a non fiction book about the rainforest
Math-
  • review modules 17 and 18 (writing and making numbers 10-20)
  • compete a unit assessment
  • begin to learn about height and length
  • practice adding/subtracting within 10
  • practice skip counting by 10s
  • practice counting to 100
Science-
  • begin the STEM challenge in the Imagatorium!

  • Learn about the layers of the rainforest and the animals that live there
  • learn a little about Jane Goodall and other scientists who advocated for the wildlife in rainforests
Social Studies-
  • learn about the children who live in the Amazon rainforest and compare/contrast their life to that of the children of Littleton
  • use a globe and maps of the world to see where the rainforests are located

This week is a full week of school.
  • Monday- we begin the STEM challenge
  • Tuesday- placement forms from families are due
  • Wednesday- ALICE drill
  • Friday- SPRINGFEST! HERE is the link to volunteer (PTA is still looking for volunteers! This amazing event cannot happen without parental support)
JUST A REMINDER: Please make sure your child is wearing sneakers on Tuesdays (even if they are not their favorite to wear 😂). Children have to run in PE class and it is not safe for them to be in dress shoes or anything other than sneakers:)

If you get the chance on Sunday or Monday morning, please review one thing that your child did over the vacation to share with their classmates. This will make it easier for your child to remember and write about their activity. It does not have to be anything grand!

Here are some pictures from the week before vacation!
