April 8-12th Rainforests week 2!

 



Hello!
We have been having fun adding to our Kapok tree all week. We have been learning about the animals of the rainforest. 

This week, we will be making rainforest animals out of shapes and then writing a poem to go along with the animal. This project will be on our bulletin board so be sure to check it out if you come to the K wing!

Please remember to send in your child's permission slip for the field trip and to pay either online or send in the correct amount (add $16 if you are chaperoning:). We need all the forms and $ in by April 10th

This week, the children will be...
Language Arts-
  • practicing sight words look , with and this
  • writing a short poem using trick words
  • reading "rainforest sentences"
  • spelling/reading words with digraphs (sh, th, ch, ck and wh) and short vowels
  • sequencing the beautifully illustrated
    story The Umbrella by Jan Brett
  • writing persuasive letters during Writer's Workshop to "make a change"
Math-
  • practicing composing/decomposing teen numbers
  • writing teen numbers and matching the written number to a quantity 
  • sequencing numbers to 100 (challenge!)
  • skip counting by 10s
  • using shapes to make jungle animals
Science-
  • continuing our discussion about the solar eclipse and observing the BIG event together! (each student will be getting special glasses to make sure they are safely viewing the eclipse)
  • learning about the importance of the Amazon rainforest and all the resources it provides
SEL-
